The rules for obtaining "Schengen" may change this year
For a number of countries, the cost of a visa for short-term entry into the Schengen countries will be increased to € 80. This change does not apply to the Russian Federation and some other countries.
The representative of the European Commission said that according to the new rules, the conditions for obtaining "Schengen" for persons "with a positive visa history" will become more flexible. Such citizens will be able to obtain a multiple-entry visa with a period of validity increasing from one to five years.
The changes will also affect the deadlines for applying for a Schengen visa - up to six months before the planned trip. In a number of countries, it will be possible to submit an electronic application on the consulate's website. For travelers aged 6-18, a Schengen visa may become free in 2019.
The new rules must be formally approved by the EU Council and incorporated into the visa code. They will come into force in six months.
For Russian citizens, an increase in the visa fee is not expected, it will remain at the same level of € 35.
